I get the error 'Error loading Polar file! Use LS8 Polar' - why?
The polar type is set to 'WinPilot? File', but either the WinPilot? file chosen in your settings is invalid or you have failed to specify a WinPilot? file.
See 'How do I select a polar?'.
Can I use my own polar files?
Yes absolutely. XCSoar uses the WinPilot? format for Polars. This is a very simple text file, defining three sink rate values for three speeds on your polar, as well as ballast-empty and ballast-full mass.
How do I select a polar?
Polars can be selected on Page 5 of the Setup System menu.
A large range of polars are built into XCSoar, but custom polars in WinPilot? format are also supported.
To choose a custom polar:
- Type should be set to 'Winpilot File'
- Polar file should be set to your desired file.
Why doesn't my WinPilot? file work?
After loading a winpilot file, it is a good idea to view the polar (Menu->Analysis->page through to Glide Polar). If the numbers shown are in error, there is something wrong with the polar file. Some browsers don't download files from the WinPilot? site properly (they save it as an html document) --- so make sure when you download the file you right click on it and "Save as..." to save it.
Where can I get more?
You can Download Polars from WinPilot? site.
Note that most of the polars in the WinPilot? site are already available within XCSoar.
