Description
I've painted a mockup of a new airspace warning dialog. We could keep the old list as a list and take this one for the warnings.

Like the new warning2 picture and as one of those who needs extra field length for long names including radio frequencies due to the inadequacies of OpenAir? airspace format, I endorse the above request. The other solution would be for XCSoar to recognise a Radio attribute within its support for OpenAir? airspace format.

proposal for new labeling of "Ack..." Buttons.
comment:5 Changed 14 months ago by henrik
warning3.png is a suggestion to make the dialogue more intuitive for new users and more flexible, since "Ack Warn" Time can be changed as the situations requires.
AckWarn? -> Time Button
AckDay? -> Today Button
AckSpace? -> while near Button
pros:
- easy to understand labeling, even for new users
- flexible Warning repeat time "on the fly"
- The time button defaults to the value set in the config. So no slowdown in using.
cons:
- more space needed for the 2 arrow buttons
- ?

PS:
The up-down-Buttons could change the default Ack-Time to preset values e.g. (30s, 1min, 2min, 5min, 10min, 15min, 30min, 1hr, 2hrs). Those intervals would be quite fast to set and should cover all possible scenarios.

Don`t forget to show the vertical distance to the Airspace.
I think it would be a good idea to show the own altitude and the difference between the own altitude and the border altitude of the airspace.
This is a very important function for example if you circle a thermal against a airspace border an the warning dialog opens you aren´t able to see your courrent hight and this is a real problem.

I like all this suggestions and I am happy that I found the ticket! This part of xc needs rework.
I would like to see less buttons on the dialog, especially only one Ack button. It must be possible to pimp the logic behind to always have a reasonable Ack action. E.g.
- principle all airspace which are ok to enter for a glider without radio request it is fine to stay with a single warning.
- if it needs a radio request the Ack could show another modal again with the frequency and the options "free to enter" and "I stay out". Nevertheless the map should still display the Airspace. (HC) restricted areas, special glider restriction zones, >FL100 airspaces and CTR should be covered with that.
- The from henrik mentions "while near" idea would apply for the "I stay out" option. as far as a further move towards the airspace is triggered the warning should show up again. In circling mode the center is tracked for that decision.
- the timeout to reactivate the waring for a not changed situation could go in the config. I like the one big "Ack" button approach.

Please, let me remind, that there exists some situation, where the pilot wants to be warned and urged not to intrude that airspace. Such situation occures for example during competitions, where the prohibited airspaces could be published each day. The pilot should be repetedly warned prior to intrusion, because violating such airspace will end up his competition flight. And also please remember, that such airspace could be approached from different direction or from below multiple times a day. Especially, when the pilot is circling very close to the border.
For example in Czech Republic, each competition day could have different set of prohibitted airspaces (because of military usage of it), so the pilot could mark some airspaces as "prohibited" during the briefing or before the start.

So how about something which will not use time (i.e. The current "Acknowlege Time") as a criteria to re-enable the warning but a distance threshold from the previous ACK, e.g. 500m horizontal. This would allow circling near an airspace but once you continue your flight the warning gets quickly re-enabled. For airspaces where you have to request a permission to enter you can have "Ack space" which unlike the current version is also not based on time but the warning gets re-enabled once you leave that airspace.

KIS(S) please!
Instead of another new view for airspace warning, I propose just a warning sound. When working in a weak or turbulent thermal, I do not see it useful to have any pop-up windows or menus, which require your attention - or action. I would prefer NOT to have this pop-up window we have now, it blocks the view to the map, where I could get information about the reason for the warning. Just a warning sound, please!
Well, if we just get the warning sound, we should have a possibility acknowledge the airspace in question. Can we provide that menu without blocking the map view, something simple, pls. How about a gesture to open the pop-up window we now get, or a single button?
The airspace violated already changes it's color. That I believe is enough indication about the reason of a warning. If you want to provide detailed information, you could add someting on the analysis:airspace window. That can be opened with one gesture, when needed.
Also, audible warning is useful also when using termalling centering tool on full screen.
