Ticket #1029 (closed enhancement: fixed)
UTC Offset is read-only and does not account for Daylight savings time (USA)
| Reported by: | RobD | Owned by: | RobD |

Description
Most locations in the US adjust their clocks for Daylight savings time. This moves the clocks 1 hour forward in March (so New York City becomes GMT-4) and 1 hour back in November (so New York City becomes GMT-5). This schedule is locally determined, and should not be hard coded by XCSoar.
--> The UTC offset in the configuration dialog should not be read-only. (Currently, the UTC offset field is read-only.)

I am using a MIO device (not a PDA) and have no way to change the system time outside of XCSoar. The option to adjust the time (UTC offset) in XCSoar is grayed out (read-only). I am in UTC-5 zone. Thanks!

In the MIO, you should be able to open the Windows Control Panel, and set the timezone UTC offset. At least I can with the "unlock" version that I have for my Mio.

Unfortunately my Mio changes the time zone setting back to GMT+1 every time the device is restarted. I wish I could just set the time offset in XCsoar.

my suggestion is adding a default "auto" value to that field. if that one is chosen the system setting is used otherwise the value supplied by the user.

That would be great. Trying to adjust time zone settings before every flight (it gets reset when the device is restarted or every time the Mio’s Nav system is run) by digging into control.exe is extremely frustrating (tiny up/down arrows and “ok” buttons make me want to throw it at the wall :)). In the old version of XCSoar I could just set it once and forget it.

Setting the UTC offset used by XCSoar is now possible on CE devices in settings.

Not an issue because system UTC for PDA can be changed to alter this setting.
